Justice League...again

We haven’t watched Justice League since it was released in 2017, but thought that we should revisit it before the 4 hour behemoth that is the “Snyder Cut” is released in March. Our original feelings were pretty bad, maybe Roy kinda liked it…maybe, but perhaps the longest 4 years ever softened our hearts and made it so we could enjoy some escapism fun when we need it the most.

Source Code

10 years ago, when this podcast was in its infancy, we reviewed Source Code along with Black Death. While I have never had any interest in watching one of those movies again, Ryan decided that revisiting Duncan Jone’s follow up to Moon would be a good way to spend an evening together. We got lucky in that half of us had never seen it, so there are new and old opinions. If you have a movie that you would like us to watch and review, all in one night, please just let us know.

2020: Odds & Ends

There will be an upcoming episode where we talk about the best and worst movies of 2020, but for now, here is an episode about everything else we watched this year. We watched older movies we’d never seen before, we rewatched movies that we had tucked away in the recesses of our minds, we binged watched season upon season of television. This was life for many people in 2020, and so we wanted to take a minute, or a 100, and discuss.

Enjoy!

Movie Night: All I Want for Christmas

Christmas has come and gone, but we aren’t done with our celebrating. So here is one more Christmas movie to tide you over until 2021. This week we are watching and discussing Sean’t selection, All I Want for Christmas. Just because this is the last Christmas movie we are doing this year, doesn’t mean it it is the least. The terrible story…that’s why it’s the least.

3rd Annual Hallmark Christmas Special

It really is the most wonderful time of year as the four of us get together (virtually) to talk about all the Hallmark movies that we watched this year. There are highs and there are lows, but good times are had by all. If you want to know what’s in store for you, these are the are the titles we went with:

-One Royal Holliday

-The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

-A Nashville Christmas Carol

-If I Only had Christmas

-Pride, Prejudice, & Mistletoe

-A Christmas in Vermont

-On the 12th Date of Christmas

-Christmas Waltz

-Feliz Navidad

It’s an impressive list, but nothing but the best for our listeners.

Christmas Chronicles 2

After a couple of unusual choices for holiday episodes, this week we talked about the Netflix movie, Christmas Chronicles 2. I was instructed to say that even though this is a family film, we may have slipped, and cursed early on during the show, but that is not a reflection of our thoughts or opinions towards CC2, but rather and indicator of our limited vocabulary.

So sit back and join us as we try and figure out what happened to Chris Columbus.

Movie Night: Trapped in Paradise

Sticking with the holiday theme, this week Roy asked us to watch the perhaps forgotten gem from 1994, Trapped in Paradise. This was a hot minute before Nicholas Cage took over the late 90’s, and you can just start to see the beginnings of those tale-tell Cage mannerisms. So sit back with a big mug of hot chocolate, then grab a big bottle of bourbon cream, now mix it all together while watching Trapped in Paradise.

Movie Night: Fatman

Fatman…what can we really say about this strange satire/action/comedy about Santa and the over-commercialization of Christmas? My guess is we can say about 35 minutes worth of things…on this episode…because this is a podcast where we talk about movies. I really thought you would have figured that out by now.

The New Mutants

This Thanksgiving we are thankful that we can are finally at the end of Fox’s run of The X-Men. We’ve had some good times along the way, and more than a few disappointments. But before the curtain drops on this franchise, one last film is finally seeing the light of day, The New Mutants. This may not be the movie we were promised, or the movie we hoped for, but it feels like a movie that could only come out in 2020. So sit back, relax, and enjoy our thoughts on the last X-Men movie to be released…by Fox…because Disney will surely release at least a dozen more.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm & The Lodge

We are doing it old school this week, where we just talk about a couple of random things that we have watched lately. So you get a little comedy and a little “horror”, though maybe there are some disagreements about whether the comedy was funny, or if the horror was scary. Yep, just another 2020 night, as we talk about the minutia of movies that a lot of people don’t really care about.

Movie Night: Re-Animator

For this week’s random Movie Night, Ryan chose the 1985 cult classic, Re-Animator. Most of us had seen this at some point already, but that did not take away from the jaw-dropping madness that unfolded before us. One of us also consumed way too much whiskey to see if that made this movie any better. All the data isn’t in yet, but right now it appears to be an entertaining watching, sober or not.

Enjoy!

Dick Tracy

This week we did another random movie night. Sean chose the 1990 comic adaptation, Dick Tracy. This movie is much much MUCH different than we all remembered. Apparently you could get away with a lot in you PG film in 1990, even though there was a perfectly good PG-13 rating sitting right there for anyone to use. If you’ve not seen this movie, or not seen it lately, please do yourself a favor and seek it out. If you don’t have it handy, you might also watch Batman 89 and just imagine it with more colors.

Director Spotlight: John Carpenter

On this very special director spotlight edition of COtR, the four of us break down almost the entire career of John Carpenter. The movies we love, the movies we hate, the movies that surprised us, and James Woods not being a very good actor…all of it is on the table. Is it possible that one of us doesn’t like one of Carpenter’s absolute classics? Is it possible this happens more than once? Yeah, I mean I probably wouldn’t have asked if the answer was no.

We hope everyone has safe, socially distanced, Halloween.

West Wing Special & Utopia Season 1

We really couldn’t have picked two more different things to talk about this week. The cast of West Wing got back together for a special performance of one of their best episodes to raise awareness about the importance of voting in the upcoming election. As fans of the show, we were thrilled by this. Then we talk about Utopia, a show about a pandemic and the very worst that our society can be. As people living in a pandemic and seeing the very worst of society, this show was a gut punch.

PG Horror (Replay)

Due to being a little under the weather, we were unable to record an episode for this week. So to tide you over until our next new episode, here is one of our favorites from a couple of years ago. We know that there are a lot of horror movies to be found in the world, but here are some of our favorite “family friendly-ish” ones. Though really, by the end of this, you may just start to worry about what used to be considered PG.

3 Ninjas

This week we let Roy pick a movie for us to watch and record about. He chose the 1992 “class” “film” about “ninjas”…3 Ninjas. The classic debate arose, is this movie actually good or is nostalgia doing most of the heavy lifting. Sean assigned which ninja each of us would be with mixed results, while Roy comes to the realization that we watched some kind of much darker extended version of this movie. Good times all around.

Deep Rising

We continue to try new things as theaters continue to stay closed. This week we started recording, picked a random movie, then paused the record while we watched. So what you’re hearing are the "driving home” thoughts that we had about the 1998 sci-fi monster flick, Deep Rising. Neither Roy or Sean knew what this movie was about at all, which only made the episode better. As we continue to throw everything against the wall, please let us know what you think works, and what doesn’t.

Enjoy!

Mulan

This week we talk about not one, but two different Mulan films, the 1998 animated version, and the new live action remake. Sean had never seen the original, so it is interesting to hear his take on what he liked and didn’t like, and how the new one stacks up to the original. Then, as a treat, you can listen and Drew loses his mind discussing the f****** trolls who want to use the phrase “Mary Sue” when it comes to this movie. Just what you were hoping for in a podcast where we also talk a lot about cartoons.

Enjoy!

This or That

We are trying something a little different this week. Instead of just talking about one movie, or a particular theme, we are answering a series of “this or that” questions where we pit two things against each other, and discuss why we’d choose one thing over the other. Just trying to come up with different idea, since we aren’t ready to go to a theater to see New Mutants. If you have any suggestions for show ideas, please let us know.

DC Fandome

This week we discuss some of the news to come out of the DC event, DC Fandome. We can all agree that the name left something to be desired, but did Warner Bros give us enough new information to get us excited about Wonder Woman 84, The Batman, The Suicide Squad, and the Snyder cut of Justice League? We even dive into the first looks of some of the new video games being release from DC. So much on the horizon, so much of it looks dull.
