Jungle Cruise

The days are getting shorter, kids are going back to school, and fall is just around the corner. But if you don’t mind some silly entertainment, Jungle Cruise can try and make the summer last just a little while longer. The story isn’t a new one, you’ll probably be able to identify three or four movies that Disney pulled from, but this isn’t the kind of movie you watch for originality. So sit back as we talk about how much being charming can carry a movie.

Enjoy!

Cruella

There are so many great actors in Cruella, Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Mark Strong, that it’s almost too bad that they are all overshadowed by another performance. That’s not to say that any of them did a poor job, they were all great, but sometimes you must give credit where it is due. I guess you will just need to listen to find out who the real star of the latest Disney live action adaption really is. ;-)

Dick Tracy

This week we did another random movie night. Sean chose the 1990 comic adaptation, Dick Tracy. This movie is much much MUCH different than we all remembered. Apparently you could get away with a lot in you PG film in 1990, even though there was a perfectly good PG-13 rating sitting right there for anyone to use. If you’ve not seen this movie, or not seen it lately, please do yourself a favor and seek it out. If you don’t have it handy, you might also watch Batman 89 and just imagine it with more colors.

Mulan

This week we talk about not one, but two different Mulan films, the 1998 animated version, and the new live action remake. Sean had never seen the original, so it is interesting to hear his take on what he liked and didn’t like, and how the new one stacks up to the original. Then, as a treat, you can listen and Drew loses his mind discussing the f****** trolls who want to use the phrase “Mary Sue” when it comes to this movie. Just what you were hoping for in a podcast where we also talk a lot about cartoons.

Enjoy!

Hamilton

Disney+ gave us all a treat this summer by releasing the stage production recording of Hamilton. There is no reason to leave you in suspense, we were all huge fans of this show before we saw it, and now we are even more impressed by this “once in a generation” show. So prepare yourselves, all we do is just gush about how much we love this musical.

Artemis Fowl

Ooof, I don’t even know where to start with this one. Clearly Disney knew that this movie was in trouble by the fact that it was supposed to be released last summer. I know that when you spend over a hundred million dollars on a film, that you are kind of stuck with it, but even as a direct to Disney+ release, it feels cheap and unnecessary. Anyway, I hope I didn’t tip our hand too much on how we felt about this week’s movie, but figured you deserved to know the truth.

Disney+

One week into the launch of Disney+, so we figured we should do an episode. This week we discuss what we’ve been watching on the new streaming platform, what we would like to see on there, and our initial complaints about the service. This is an episode where we’d really like to hear from people who listen to the show. What have you been watching on Disney+, and what should we turn our attention to next?

The Lion King (2019)

Here we are again, in the endless circle of Disney films. This time we are visiting the latest “live action” remake of a classic Disney cartoon, The Lion King. Much like the other examples of Disney reimagining their films, this one was met with pretty divisive reviews. Much like the Aladdin remake, The Lion King seems to be resistant to any negative comments that reviewers may have. How do you think we landed on this one? Guess you’ll just have to listen to find out…because this is a podcast…that’s kind of how this works.

Aladdin (2019)

There are a lot of opinions about Disney making live action remakes of their animated classics. So far, the results have been a mixed bag, and their newest release, Aladdin, seems to have divided audiences once again. Though more likely, this movie has divided audiences from critics. So sit back and listen to us discuss the good and bad of the latest Disney blockbuster, Aladdin.

Enjoy!

Mary Poppins Returns

On this week’s episode we talk about Mary Poppins Returns along with a number of other Disney films that have been released lately or are scheduled to come out later this year. I know that a lot of people are upset about the number of live action remakes of popular animated films that are being released in the near future, but please keep in mind that it is okay for these movies to be in the world, and that they in no way diminish the source material. Plus, as we briefly discuss, if all goes well, maybe we will get a Great Mouse Detective live action version!

Casting the New MCU

With Disney officially closing the deal to acquire Fox just last, we thought it would be fun to discuss how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will look now, and how we would like to see them cast many of the big characters that will be eventually joining the team. If anyone know Kevin Feige, please pass this information along, because I think we’ve really got some good ideas here.

Enjoy!
