Longlegs

This week we are talking about Neon Studio’s new hit horror film, Longlegs. In general, horror fans seem to love this movie, but does that me that we did? I think you know, we rarely all agree with each other, and this movie is no different. So if you liked Longlegs, then you will agree with something we say, and if it wasn’t for you, we still have you covered. We aim to please at COTR.

Maxxxine

Ti West was always going to have a tough time living up to the hype after giving us two of the best horror films in recent memory with X and Pearl. Maxxxine looked like it had the chance to exceed all expectations, but could it stick the landing, or did Ti West do what Ti West does, and focus on style over substance? Obviously we will give you our take, but that doesn’t mean it’s correct.

In a Violent Nature

This week we are talking about the low budget, deconstructed, slasher flick, In a Violent Nature. Our opinions are not perfectly aligned, but we can all agree on one thing…this movie has one of the most creative kills on 2024. So if you like horror, you should check it out, but if you want to stare, mouth agape, at one of the most excessively violent scenes of late, then you should also check out this movie. Either way, you should listen to our episode.

Late Night with the Devil

2023 didn’t really feel like a great year for horror, but is this the year to turn that around? Late Night with the Devil could help right the course, but is it as good as the critics would have you believe? And really, how many production companies does it take to make a movie? So many questions, and hopefully we can answer some of them.

Evil Dead Rise

This week we are talking about the new sequel to a rebooted franchise, Evil Dead Rise. We were all a little let dead by the first one, but we were holding out hope that the new would could surprise us a little. Ther’re a lots of opinions, both high and low, but you’ll just have to listen to see where we came down on the movie as a whole.

The Final Girls

This is the last of our episodes from the “Cabin Chronicles II”, and it watching The Final Girls was one of the high points of the weekend. A tongue-in-cheek send up of slasher movies that avoids many of the cynical pitfalls that a lot of parody movies fall into. An excellent movie to watch with a group of friends.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Here is another fine episode from the “Cabin Chronicles” series. While Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan isn’t a ver good movie, the episode that movie spawned is pretty solid. Plus it was late, and we were all a little loopy, so you know that helps. Maybe next time we will let people outside the show pick all the movies.

The Innocents

For those of you who are tired of us only talking about Marvel movies, this week we give you our episode on the Norwegian horror film, The Innocents. We may not entirely agree on the film, but we do fine some common ground. We also place way more value on a scene involving a tortilla than the director probably intended, but that doesn’t mean that we are wrong.

X

In the past, we have not really enjoyed the movie of Ti West, but with X we were cautiously optimistic. West has always had a great visual style, and can make movies feel like they are from other decades without needing to remind you all the time that it is a period piece. However, his previous outings have left us a little empty. In classic COtR form, we did not all agree about how X turned out.

Psycho Goreman

This is the last episode from our cabin weekend and we are finishing up the “Cabin Chronicles” with arguably the biggest hit of the weekend, Psycho Goreman. To say that those of us who hadn’t seen it were surprised would be an understatement. We strongly encourage anyone with any interest this film to watch it first, because I am not sure that our outbursts about random parts of this film will properly convey how much fun we had watching it.

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight

Another weird horror movie can only mean one thing, another episode from our cabin trip. This was actually the last movie we watched that weekend, which is why you may notice that we don’t all make it to the table. The excitement of the weekend made some of us fall asleep almost immediately after we started this gem from the 90’s. We also discover that most movies could be improved by simply adding a little more Billy Zane to the cast. It’s not that difficult.

Chopping Mall

Killer robots, frisky 20somethings, …the mall. The 80’s really were a magical time to be alive. This absolute treasure was a blast to watch during our cabin weekend, and if this podcast can convince at least one person to watch it who may have never seen it, than all of this will have really been for something.

KILLER ROBOTS…IN THE MALL!

Rec

A little while ago the four of us were able to get together for the first time in more than 2 years. We spent a weekend in a cabin in the the woods and all we did was watch movies and record episodes. The episodes from that weekend are affectionately known as The Cabin Chronicles. We took turns picking the movies, and the first one chosen was the 2007 Portuguese film, Rec. Fun fact, watching zombie movies in the middle of the woods definitely ups the creepy factor.

Tales From the Hood

We just can’t quit talking about horror movies, though this one surprised us. We all seemed to remember what this movie was about, but it definitely hit harder for us this time around. I know the movie didn’t change, but we certainly have since this movie was released in the 90’s. Plenty to talk about before we take a break from horror for a minute. Before you know it we will be gearing for another Hallmark Christmas episode. Enjoy!

The Night House

Yeah, we know that October is over, and most podcasts are probably moving onto those very well know Thanksgiving movies, but we watched a lot of horror last month, and that means you get more horror episodes, and run on sentences. The Night House is the movie that brought Ryan back to the theaters after being closed for so long. Did it do justice to such a notable honor? Just listen and find out.

Enjoy!

Fear Street Trilogy

I am not sure I will ever understand why Netflix decided to release the Fear Street trilogy in the middle of the summer instead of in October, but I am sure some algorithm told them it would be more successful that way. Whatever the reason, we decided to wait until the spookiest month before we released our episode on the three movies. If you’ve ever listened to this show before, you may know that Roy is very particular about the naming of sequels, and we barely get through the opening before he makes his feelings known. Guess you’ll have to listen to the rest to find out how we felt about the actual movies.

Movie Night: Halloween 2

Roy decided to kick off our month of horror movies a little early by selecting Halloween 2 as his movie night choice. Can this immediate followup to the original capture the same magic? Absolutely not. Is it at least a serviceable horror movie? The answer to that question is the crux of this episode, but our opinions definitely vary. Regardless of what we thought, it dis kind of make us want to revisit this franchise.

Wishmaster

We have been doing research for our next Rewind episode, but sometimes there’s a movie that sets itself apart from the fray. In a year that gave us Titanic and Good Will Hunting it could have been easy to miss Wishmaster, but do yourself a favor and make 90 minutes in your life this gem.
