The Fabelmans

This week we are talking about the latest film from Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans. An autobiographical film about one of our favorite directors seems like a perfect fit for us here at COtR, but could this movie live up the our expectations, or was to just a little too self-aggrandizing? We can’t speak for everyone out there, and there are certainly plenty of people who just like to hate on Spielberg, but if that’s the podcast you’re looking for, you may want to look somewhere else.

I Love My Dad

This week we discuss listener requested film, I Love My Dad. Typically, we do not all agree on a movie, but against all odds, we somehow found that common ground for this “comedy”. Was it good? Was it bad? Was it unwatchable? Or maybe just really cringy? This is a podcast, you have to listen to find out.

Four Rooms

As we round out the first round of the Cabin Chronicles, we land on Roy’s first pick, Four Rooms. This 1995 film has a lot of highs and lows, and would feature entries from some of the most prolific filmmakers of their generation. Which tale in this anthology film would be everyone’s favorite? You know, the drill, listen to find out.

From Beyond

When we go to the woods to watch a bunch of movies, we don’t really like to pick winners and losers. That said, if we were to choose, Ryan’s selection, From Beyond, would undoubtedly be the winner. It really does have it all, and we are all better people for having watched it. God bless practical effects, especially the ones in this film.

Above the Rim

Another entry from our Cabin Chronicles, this week is Sean’s pick, Above the Rim. Sure, we talk about the movie, but we also talked about what “really” happened to Tupac. It’s the coverup a certain actor doesn’t want you to know about. This movie, also makes an appearance on our Patreon episode for our favorite soundtracks, so maybe you should pop on over and sign up!

The Taking of Beverly Hills

This week we talk about the cinematic classic, The Taking of Beverly Hills. I will now give you a minute to look this title up on IMDb, because it turns out that almost no one remembers this Die Hard ripoff. Somehow it made it into our cabin trip rotation, and now you get to listen to 75% of us talk about it. One of us immediately fell asleep and was not asked to participate in the podcast

Enjoy!

Hellraiser

Our plan was to do a movie night and then record on the new Hellraiser movie that was just released on Hulu. However, it turns out that 75% had never seen the original, so we decided to pivot and now this week is all about the disgustingly wonderful 1987 film, Hellraiser. This is, hands down, one of the squishiest movies of all time. God bless practical effects.

Enjoy!

High School USA

This week is another request episode, and definitely one of the stranger things we’ve watched, but in a good way. The movie is High School USA, and if you haven’t heard of it, then you may need to read up on the made for tv movies from the early 80’s. However this cast of TV all stars really deliver the goods, and this movie is definitely worth a watch, or maybe worth watching again. The whole movie is available on YouTube, so there’s no excuse.

Enjoy!

Phantom Thread

This week is another Patreon request episode, as we delve into Phantom Thread. We also decided act on some of your criticisms, mainly the one where you’d like to hear us less, and we brought on a special guest. So now you will all be even more aware of how stupid we are, as it a far more apparent when we add a smart person to the mix. So sit back as we discuss one of the most beautifully quiet movies, toxically fascinating, and childishly wonderful movies there is.

Enjoy!

Nope

This week we discuss the latest film from Jordan Peele, Nope. If you haven’t watched this movie yet, it is available to rent and buy digitally, and we all recommend that you watch it before listening to this episode. However, if you aren’t interested in watching Jordan Peele’s take on science fiction and creature features, then please feel free to just listen to us talk about it instead. The only thing scary about this show is how charming we are… at least that is what our mom’s say.

Enjoy!

Vengeance & Burial

This week we talked about two new films that my have had short theatrical runs, but still had plenty to offer, Vengeance and Burial. One of them we knew about, the other we watch based off of the Apple description, which may have not been quite as clear as we would have liked. Still, we made the best of the situation, and now we have a funny story to tell. Plus, we got to learn a little bit about history. Entertaining and educational.

Jaws & Spider-Man: No Way Home

Last weekend, theaters around that country rereleased to blockbuster films. The first was the IMAX release of Jaws, the second was the extended cut of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Episodes for each of these movies already exist in our library, but we love them so much that we recorded some more of our thoughts. Plus, when you get to see Jaws in IMAX, the need to talk about it is great. So sit back as we gush over some of our favorites.

Police Story

This week we discuss another one of of Patron requests, Police Story. It is always something special when none of us have seen a movie, but even better when we don’t even have an idea what it is about. There is a chance that we had some weird subtitles on this, but just like a good opera, sometimes you don’t need to understand the language to know what a character is saying. Thank you, Matt, for this wildly entertaining selection.

Enjoy!

Living in Oblivion

This week we discuss Living in Oblivion, a Patreon request from Tom. This film is unbelievably “90’s indie” in all the ways you can imagine. If you were to just start throwing out ideas for what you think an independent film looked like back then, you would probably end up creating this movie. But was it any good? Obviously you need to listen to find out, but I can tell you that our opinions were not universal. They rarely are.

Enjoy!

Blade

This week we let the fates decided what our movie night would be, and it turns out, the fates favored Roy. One of Roy’s leftover picks from the last cabin trip came back around, and that is how we ended up watching the 1998 “classic”, Blade. If you are wondering what we were laughing about at the start of the episode, please see the photo below.

Lightyear

I think the first rule of podcasting is “when a 7 year old requests an episode, you make sure to get it done”. The second rule is probably something about making sure your podcast sounds good or something, I don’t really know. This week I am adhering to rule one as we discuss the latest Pixar film, Lightyear. I have seen lots of divisive remarks made about this one, and I guess we had better make our opinions known as well. Hopefully Tuck isn’t to hard on us here at COTR.

Enjoy!

In the Mood for Love

This week is another one of our Patreon listener request episodes. The movie in question, In the Mood for Love. A rare movie that none of us had seen before, but one that still managed to reach each of us. It was definitely a more serious film than we are used to discussing on here (we’ve done not one, but two Wishmaster films), but we think we rose to the occasion.
