Hallmark Christmas Special 2023

This is our fifth year of doing our Hallmark special, and apparently the gods who oversee podcasts didn’t want us to celebrate because they cursed our show and we lost one of our host shortly after we began. We didn’t lose him like he died or something, just some technical issues. Just know that Ryan really wanted to talk about Christmas in the Rockies, but now you will never know how it was. I

n case this is our last episode of 2023, we hope you all have a wonderful holiday season.

The Fall of the House of Usher

This week we are discussing the latest series from Mike Flanagan, The Fall of the House of Usher. We also play a little catch up on some of the other things we’ve been watching lately. We apologize if we have missed some weeks lately, but the perfect storm of busy work schedules and sicknesses that won’t go away have made it a little bit difficult to record new shows. We promise to try and do better in the new year. Also, we haven’t forgotten about the several episodes that we still owe a few listeners out there. That is also something we hope to correct soon.

The Marvels

Today is Sean’s birthday! To celebrate, here is our episode on The Marvels. This was the lowest opening movie in the MCU, yet most people seem to agree that it was actually pretty good. Are we “most people”? Well I guess you’ll have to listen to find out. And If you haven’t yet, wish Sean a happy 42!

Flora & Son

This we are discussing the films of John Carney. Mostly his latest outing, Flora & Son, but also our quick ranking of his other offerings. Historically, Carney’s films have been well loved on COTR, so you’ll just have to listen to hear if this film is another feather in his cap, or just another straight to streaming movie.

Totally Killer/The Creator/Gran Turismo

What a treat, this week you get an episode on three movies! We are hoping that since you get three movies, you won’t notice that the better half of the show hosts aren’t on this one. So here’s a little horror/comedy, a little science fiction, and a little video game underdog sports story. Surely there isn’t something for most people in here.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 2 (part 1)

We thought it would take a little longer for Sean to get through the second season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but we were pleasantly mistaken. So this week we are talking about the first half of season 2, but don’t worry, you’ll get the second part in the next week or two. That should give you plenty of time to go to Hulu and watch them all.

No One Will Save You & Talk to Me

The weather is getting cooler, which means it is time to start talking about horror movies. We know that horror is good any time of year, but it just seems a little better when it isn’t 90º outside. This we are talking about a pair of movies that now available to stream, No One Will Save You and Talk to Me. We didn’t plan it, but these two movie pair unbelievably well together. For the most part, we really like both of these, so if you want to watch before you listen, please do so, because we will be spoiling them.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 1

For 75% of us, Buffy the Vampire Slayer genre defining television. Sean was the one holdout…until now. Our plan is to record an episode recapping each season as Sean makes his way through, and just get his general thoughts, while also talking about some of our favorite moments and episodes. So in that spirit, this week we are discussing season 1.

Ranking the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Films

This week we are breaking down our collective ranking of all the films in the TMNT universe. The debate was lively, as we discuss which holds more weight, quality or nostalgia. There isn’t a right answer, but the conversation is still a blast to have.

Theater Etiquette (replay)

Sorry about no new episode this week, but instead here is something that we feel is still very important. It seems as though people’s behavior in theaters is getting worse and worse, and so here is our episode from years ago all about “theater etiquette”.

Enjoy!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

The movie industry is a great state of change. Superhero movies are failing left and right, while Barbie and Mario and laughing all the way to the bank. Disney/Pixar movies are being released to tepid reviews, while other studios push animation in exciting directions, first with Across the Spiderverse, and now with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. So sit back as we kind of talk about turtles, while also talking about Oppenheimer again and more Zelda talk.

Director Spotlight: Richard Donner

This is an episode that we recorded awhile back, but are just now releasing on the regular feed, our director spotlight on Richard Donner. Was everything he created gold? Absolutely now, but he helmed some of the most influential pictures for a generation of moviegoers. So this week, sit back for awhile and listen to us talk about the highs and lows of Richard Donner.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part I

Let’s keep it simple, this movie is pretty great. If you haven’t seen it, go watch it before it’s out of theaters, then listen to our episode. If you have seen it, go see it again to help bolster its box office numbers, then listen to our episode. If for some reason you don’t want to see it, you can just listen to our episode.

Enjoy!

The Frighteners

This week we are discussing the horror/comedy from 1996, The Frighteners. Though there is enough from that movie to fill an episode, we also talk about a lot of the other movies we’ve been watching lately. And like most things we watch, some of them are good, and some a really really bad.

Enjoy!

The Flash

Ezra Miller is a garbage person. We won’t everyone to know that even if The Flash was a good movie, it would still be kind of awful because of how terrible Miller has been IRL. That said, The Flash didn’t really impress anyone here at COtR, with the range being somewhere between “meh” and “the worst comic book movie ever”. Definitely an entertaining episode.
